Crazy spring so far.

Crazy.

What started out as the perfect spring has quickly grown hot and cold. With temperatures dipping into the 30s last night, some of the plants certainly had a difficult time. Tonight is cold too and that will offer up some additional challenges.

On the flip side, the weather will probably change by the time I finish this sentence. Warm days lie ahead and, ugh, more rain too.

More Rain too.

Nonetheless,we are full steam ahead. Once this weather clears, we’ll be busy planting our summer crops like tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and peppers. We’ll be working to get our fields ready for planting and working to get things weeded. Our harvest start soon and that will be another chore to add to our list.

May means the days are long and, often enough, sunny. The crew loves being outside on days like today. It’s definitely one of the perks of being a farmer.

Our CSA is still open and we have room for lots more. We offer custom shares and convenient pick up spots. Our organic inspector is coming out this month and our food safety plan has been updated. All in all, it’s a great time to support local farms and farmers. If you’re not sure if a CSA is right for you, give me a call. I promise not to try to “talk you into it” but rather I’ll explain the highs and lows of a CSA program. I’ll share some of the compliments and complains so that you can make a decision that’s right for you. Call me anytime at (630) 882-8008.
